Our favorite restaurant! Butter fish is a MUST!! Super tender and awesome! Lava cake is the bomb as well, ask for extra scoops of vanilla ice cream! Staff has always been nice and we were running late and they kept our reservation for us for more than 30mins!! It can be a little loud inside, if it feels good outside sit out there :) They have happy hour half off appetizers call and ask!

Ohmygoodness, my meal was great! Me and my bf came here to celebrate our 1 year anniversary, and Roy's made it quite special. Everyone wished us a happy anniversary (but they did mess up and forget to put our names in our menu's with our celebratory note, but thats ok! everyone still acknowledged our special day). Our waitress was great; very knowledgable and friendly. On to the food: Appetizers- we had some sushi - salmon rolls; lobster pot stickers (ohmygod!) and a ceaser salad. All great. For our main entree's my honey had some raw tuna (which I tried, and it was so rich! Very tasty for someone who isn't completely into raw food) and I had the butterfish which was equally rich and delicious. For dessert we had the chocolate souflee which also had happy anniversary written in chocolate on our plate. That was a cute touch. Before we blew out our candle, we had our picture taken. Very cute. All in all, I enjoyed myself. I can't wait to go back when we have something special to celebrate!

This is one of my favorite restaurants. I don't see how you can go wrong with this place. It's a lil pricey to come here for dinner every week, but I certainly would come here every week for Aloha happy hour :) For Aloha happy hour, I always get the Waygu Beef Sliders. It comes with a side of garlic sweet potato fries. Some of the other items on the menu are yummy, but they seem too small for the price -- although that's probably just me being frugal and expecting an American-size portion!!! I do like their drink specials. I like the Original Roy's Hawaiian Martini. This is the one of the very few martinis that I'll drink. I love their mojitos and other "girly" drinks ;) All of my dinner selections from their regular menu has been deliciously consistent every time I order them. My favorites are: - Braised Beef Short Ribs - Roy's Trio - Ahi Tuna - Butterfish - Cobia Their wine menu is extensive and the wait staff are very knowledgeable with their wine pairing. Oh and their dessert!!!! Eeeeekkk! I feel like Roy's started the molten lava chocolate cake. That's their signature dish. Service is excellent! The restaurant layout is nice. I like the cooking bar. That's my favorite place to sit. The private dining rooms are nice for small or big events. The event coordinator is pretty cool too. P.S. I have more photos, but I can't find them. Boooooo :( I'll update if I do :)

Another amazing experience at Roy's! We always get treated so well with such genuine service from everyone there! It was nice to see a lot of people remembered us and asked how we were and said they were glad to see us back. Like always the food was amazing I wish I could think of another word for it because it is always a whole new experience with flavors and different types of preparations! Tonight we tried some different things like we always do because everything is always delicious so you really can't go wrong with whatever you choose. For the appetizers we chose the duck confit egg rolls they were melt your mouth, by far the best I've ever had! The flavors were perfect andbthe sauce that came with it you could eat with anything if paired perfectly with the savory duck! We also had the Waygu beef and lobster roll all combined with asparagus and topped with this burst of truffle and micro greens on top! We have had this before we just had to order it again! This time my husband finally tried the feature that everyone always has as their recommendation the andouille and panko crusted flounder with fried okra and blue cheese grits with a crystal hot sauce beurre blanc! I tell you it was so unique and perfectly constructed with the smokiness of the andouille sausage with the light fish with a little heat from the crystal hot sauce. His intentions of having leftovers did not fair so well with the cleaned plate at the end. I usually get their tuna entrée however I was really tempted by their 16oz. Salt crusted bone in ribeye. I went with my gut and as we all know that usually doesn't steer you wrong. Let's just say if your thinking about the ribeye at Roy's...get it! It was the best The best I have ever had! The sear (I order my steaks rare) was perfect it was a nice cool center couldn't have been better! The flavor was incredible! I got garlic mashed potatoes that I would die for their recipe because they are addicting and broccolini. Unfortunately they removed my all time favorite bread pudding of anywhere I've ever been (we need to get that back on the menu!) so we ordered the pineapple upside down cake and the chocolate lava cake that is so melt in your mouth with vanilla ice cream and a raspberry sauce. Overall another exquisite evening at Roy's! My dream is to own my own restaurant and I always say if I ever get there I can only wish that my team performs at the level Roy's represents. Blake our server who we have had before is so friendly and he is great with recommendations and I love that he is so accommodating. He saved my ribeye tonight with recommending the sauce on the side. He was spot on because I didn't use the sauce at all, it was a star all by itself! He always tells us his favorites and it really helps with decision making. Also I wish I could have gotten her name but she was always around clearing plates, filling waters, bringing food out, she was super woman and not only was she so attentive but very friendly! She is the one who convinced me into the ribeye! She talked to us for a while, never looked rushed. She was so genuine and such a great addition to the team! The managers are always present and interactive with the kitchen, staff and dining room. I went in early and had a couple drinks at the bar and the bartenders were both great! The manger a beautiful yet professional young woman stopped by not only at the bar but again at our table to inquire about our experience. You can't do anything but rave about Everything and I'm sure she hears it all night because I can't imagine anything less than a perfect experience here. Thank you everyone at Roy's you are the best!

This one was good. I really didn't know what to think about Roy's. I have heard from some good friends that it is too hoity toity and expensive. Then I have seen here that it is really some good food too. Now we will see. We came after a bad day at the hospital. I needed a pick me up and Roy's sure did that. We were seated quickly and Lindsay was our server for the night. She did a bang up job to making sure we needed for nothing. We decide to go with the per fixed meal. It ended up being a really good choice to. You have 2 choices with apps, entrees, and dessert. Perfect two of us we will take both sides please. We started with our apps of Shirk Miso soup was really good with pork n shrimp dumplings. The broth was quite tasty and had a good depth of flavors. I had the Hamachi Tataki was also pretty tasty. The fish was a little on the fishy side but mixed with the accompanying grapefruit it all just worked together. The next course of Karage chicken we both felt was the down side of the meal. The chicken was over and hard with all the breading. But, then the Sukiyaki bowl was really close to the star of the night. A bowl of really good broth with (my fav) pork belly and some short rib (2nd fav in the world) mixed with some tiger shrimp. Then you throw in some vegis of bok choy, mushrooms and some noodles. This one was a bowl slap packed full of yummy. We ended the night on with a couple of desserts that were hurt you good. Mine was the Yuzu Curd or in laymen's terms: Coconut dacquoise, mint granite a foam. The only thing you need to know about this dish is how to order it. It was so good and had some flavors that just made it all melt in your mouth. But, the star of the night had to be the chocolate soufflé. This was a dish that made you want to stand on your chair and fight anybody that got within feet of you. I thought or really was hoping that the wife was full and didn't want any. This is mine you get back. I love you wife but leave the table now. Everything from the flourless cake to the burning hot chocolate ganache that flowed out as you cut into it. Heavenly and there is no more that needs to be said. As I stated to Lindsay our server after she came back and asked if it was any good. Don't take my plate this is a plate worth licking. Being a gentleman I gave her the plate and almost shed a tear as it left. Roy's was good and it has been put onto our soon to return list for sure.

Amazing food! If you go you must try the molten lava cake! The butterfish is amazing and so tender it melts in your mouth. Kudos to the chefs that work there because every time I go there it is an amazing experience!

Our family has always loved Roy's but the last few times we have been the food has been sub par and the service terrible. Which makes me sad because it is a place the whole family was happy with but we won't spend the money any more for the service and food we have gotten our last 3 tries. 3 strikes, youre out!

I hope I got this right, I don't do computers very well, need my husband. but I need to say thanks. JP Diedrich, you so made this beyond right, thank you so much. The gift certificate is much appreciated, truly it is, but the personal hand written note touched me deeply. You took the time from a busy day I am sure. I owned a Finance/Insurance business. Our customers keep us alive. You obviously understand this, talk about hitting it out of park, you did. You are amazing. Thank you!

Hands down the most disappointing dining experience of recent memory. I am more than willing to adjust my expectations for various levels of service but when you tout yourself as 'white table cloth service,' I expect something better than the service I might receive at Ruby Tuesdays. **Insert story of my 15 years working in restaurants here** I have expectations that if I've ordered a 35$ appetizer for 2, that you won't decide to bring me a 70$ appetizer for four without even mentioning your mistake and the 35$ up charge for you not paying attention. In addition, I can't imagine that I should have to stare at dirty empty appetizer dishes (that I paid twice for) well into my dessert course. Our server (whose name I will omit because I don't want her to suffer from sub-par training) visited our table only once to take our food order and became so flustered by one guests request for fresh pineapple juice in his tea (aka: Hawaiian ice tea) that she had to be replaced by an over worked server who was also clueless and assigned too many tables to even walk by to refill our waters. I should never have to stack my own plates, Brush off dishes with my napkin, and beg for someone to clear our table so that we might have room for our entrees. Just as I was about to convince our group to cash out and leave, an assistant floor manager came to our table to 'check in' and somehow happened to miss the fact that our table was piled with dirty dishes from our first 3 courses, that our waters were empty, and that 2 of our guests were still waiting for a new set of silverware for their entrees that had been sitting in front of them for at least 5 mins. She asked our table how our meal had been and I honestly but politely responded that it had not met our expectations. She nodded and disingenuously pretended to care until a moment later when another server interrupted our conversation to inform this floor manager that another table was unhappy. No one, server or manager, ever came back to check in on our meals. We had to flag down someone bussing an adjacent table to acquire our bill. What else can I say about a place that parades as 'fine dining' when they have no idea what even the most rudimentary customer service entails. Im sad to leave my first ever one star review for this place.

Best restaurant around, no doubt , I have eaten all over the world. Management is always attentive as well as employees. Any special occasion or requests they go above and beyond to accommodate.

I have been to this location several times and the food is always excellent! Everything I've eaten here is consistently delicious and the drinks are always a treat. And if you go with friends, make sure you take a bite of whatever they've ordered, too! It doesn't matter that this is a chain as it was started by Roy Yamaguchi--one of the pioneers in the food industry. He has created some of the best signature dishes that you will ever taste and has been able to instill great customer service in the culture of his restaurants worldwide. I had the pleasure of speaking with Roy Yamaguchi at LAX in 2011 and telling him first hand how much I loved his restaurants. He was flying back to Hawaii from LA and you can tell this man is a Master yet he is also super humble and kind. He is one of the "greats" in his field and I think it is reflected in his food. 5 STARS all the way!

This place is absolute 5 star if you are going for drinks and appetizers during happy hour. The environment is very pleasant, service is excellent, drinks are absolutely fantastic, just go before 7pm to catch the happy hour pricing. We had a real deal coupon so decided to try dinner there. The menu is quite the struggle the way it is organized. If you are not hungry and just looking to spend a lot of money on very little food, it's quite good. Problem is we were hungry. They don't have bread which to me (a guilty bread lover) was a huge downside. They serve edamame instead which I fully understand is much healthier and which I also love a lot, but sometimes you need edamame and others you just need bread. The side salad of baby greens was tasty but was nowhere close to being worth the $9.50. Half that would be pushing it, given the ingredients. We got the New York strip steak dinner which came prepared very well (medium rare) and with a nice side of broccolini and tiny fries. Again, awesome if you aren't hungry and just want to spend $40 on an entree for fun. We would go back for drinks during happy hour but dinner...no.

Wow. That's all I can say from the staff to the food. An A+ establishment, the food is amazing and while your they they make you feel very special. If you looking for a classier and excellent place for good quality food this is the spot. Definitely one of the better if not best spots in Jacksonville Beach. I highly recommend!!

Phenomenal restaurant who goes above and beyond to make guest special. I brought my boyfriend and a couple of friends here and we had such a great experience. I've never been more pleased with customer service. They brought a birthday card with my boyfriend's name printed. Their selection of food was amazing. We had the szechuan spiced pork ribs and calamari. For entree, I had the red dragon shrimp and my boyfriend had the miyosaki butterfish. I really recommend their pineapple upside down cake. Best dessert I've ever had in my life. It takes 30 mins to make them! They also took a picture of us at the end of the night and gave us a copy. 5 start from me.

We went for a anniversary dinner, and had a reservation. They really know how to make you feel special! Had a great meal. The lava cake is fantastic and a great way to end the meal. Service did make me feel like I was back at Hawaii on island time (a bit too laid-back). However, this slower service did not take away from the overall meal. I think it is good to know this in advance, so when you go to Roy's you can sit back relax enjoy the food and your company. Yes, the dishes may sit on the table longer than expected, and your water glass may not always be filled. I xan say that the food and genuine desire to make you feel special on a special occasion can make up for slower service.

I won't be going to Roy's often, but when I go, I will be very happy! Pros: Beautiful atmosphere. I consider this a fine dining experience. You want to dress up a bit (jeans are fine, but I would certainly wear a nice top for ladies or collar shirt for men). Impressive menu. I felt like there were a lot of things on the menu that I had never tried before. We were a table of six, so we shared several appetizers. All of which were delicious! Roy's also provides edamame instead of bread which is a nice touch. I like the Asian-Hawian fusion. There is nothing else like that in the area, so for someone that likes to go out for a nice lunch or dinner, this was a pleasant surprise. There are different types of entrees. Everyone's dinner looked fabulous, especially the steaks. My husband had fish and ate everything on his plate. I ordered sushi with a side of kimchi. I have been thinking about it all morning. I want to eat it again for lunch!!!!!! The service was very good and we really liked our server. However, the service was slow. We were at the restaurant for 2 hours, but we did not mind so much because we were catching up with friends. We also ordered so many appetizers that we needed some time between apps and dinner. Cons: The slow service. This is not necessarily the server's fault in the restaurant business. I would need to go again to see if this is normal. The price. It is expensive. This is not a place I will go to often, because it is pricey, but it will be one of my first choices for a special occasion. You certainly pay for what you get here. I also hear that they have a good happy hour, so maybe I will revisit then. Not open for lunch. Most places like this are not open for lunch, so it make sense. However, I love a nice lunch restaurant, and it would be great if Roy's were open on the weekends for lunch.

I wanted to write a review about their "New Year's Eve Special." And, by "special," Roy's means "we're gonna jack up the price by, oh, 85-90%." I could not believe this. A four course dinner that normally would cost $55-60 at Roy's cost us $110 each (we compared it to their "regular" menu). Roy's is known by their prix fixe menus. While this couldn't be classified as such, per se, the fact that there was a limited menu of appetizers, secondi, main & dessert courses would probably signal to the reasonably lucent diner that the prices would be more "special," not "especially high." We go to Roy's all the time. Their food is really good. But they ran out of some of their "special" items at a really bad "special" time of night. We were not "especially" pleased. Now, if they had provided something in their menu - or better yet, something other than their menu, like live entertainment - we could understand the jacking of the prices. But the ordeal was nothing special. Just a jacked up bill.

Absolutely perfect meal. Our server Justin was spot on with sevice and recommendations. I highly recommend the aloha roll to start and the scallops for an entre. Order the molton chocolate souffle to finish it off. This isnt a cheap night out, but perfect for a special occasion. I will be back and I will ask for Justin.

Staying in Ponte Verde, we were looking for a special restaurant for dinner. We made a reservation at Roy's. We trusted my iPhone map app to take us here and surprisingly, it was wrong. We had passed Roy's because it's signage is not too obvious. When we arrived, we were greeted by the valet. Inside, we were led to a huge curved booth, we liked that. BJ started with a beer and I got The Original Hawaiian Martini, it was Maui pineapple, SKYY Vodka, Stoli Vanil Vodka & Malibu Coconut Rum. Yum. Our server was a true professional and carefully explained the menu to my Roy's virgin bf. We decided to start with a butternut squash & coconut soup with spiced sunflower seeds and tempura vegetables which were carrots, peppers, mushrooms and broccolini. Loved both dishes. For our meals, I got the petite filet & butter poached lobster. It was served with Béarnaise, asparagus and Poblano mash. Loved it. BJ got the spicy seafood hot pot, served with lobster, black mussels, little neck clams, shrimp, noodles, and Go Chu Jang broth. He really liked it, but as usual, it wasn't spicy enough for him. For dessert, BJ vetoed my much beloved melting hot chocolate souffle. Instead, we shared the pineapple upside down cake. He really enjoyed it, I thought it was okay. All in all, we had a very nice evening at Roy's.

Went to Roy"s some years back and was disappointed but decided to try it again since we had a gift certificate. The restaurant is beautiful, the service was great but the food was just plain awful. We started with the calamari, it was drenched in some over powering sauce and was tough. I had the grilled salmon, it was sitting in a bowl with some tasteless liquid and was barley warm. My husband had some soup concoction with beef and pork and shrimp. Tasteless broth. I can't understand all the great reviews on this place. I should have sent the salmon back, but we had already complained about the calamari and she just said sorry. I guess I shouldn't have said the service was great. And to say it is pricey is an understatement.

Unacceptable service... Servers seemed confused as if they are lost, no direction as if they forgot who ordered what. We had 4 different people waiting on us. Perhaps if they kept 1 server per table it wouldn't seem like a lost lamb at the slaughter waiting to be killed....No smile, not friendly and bland personalty. Decor is nice but food is mediocre at best. 45 mins just to receive a simple order of vegetarian sushi and 20 mins for a warm martini. Shame, shame, shame!

Very disappointing evening with friends. Roy's is usually a guaranteed great experience. We have been there for countless birthdays and anniversaries. Unfortunately, that was not the case with our last visit. It was my wife's birthday, and we were celebrating with two other couples. The service was fine, other than some confusion on the appetizer order. The real issue was with my wife's steak. She ordered the filet, and when it came out, it smelled awful. She wasn't sure if that was the seasoning, so she took a small bite. It was a rancid piece of meat! We all took turns smelling it, because we couldn't believe they would serve something so obviously spoiled. We called over the waiter, and when he smelled it, he immediately apologized and rushed the steak back to the kitchen. The entire kitchen staff took turns smelling it, and you could tell by their faces they were appalled. He came back immediately and promised us he would make it right. Curiously absent from the entire affair was the manager. He never came by to apologize, or acknowledge the error. They quickly brought back a new filet, but by that time my wife had lost her appetite. The rest of the meal went by quickly, still with no sign of the manager. Finally, at the end of the meal, the waiter brought out the complimentary desert for my wife's birthday, and informed me that her dessert would be free, as a result of the earlier issues. Are you kidding me? The free desert was free?!?! I left a discreet message to the restaurant through my open table app, as that was how I had booked the reservation. I never got a response. Maybe this review will get their attention. Do not go to Roy's for steak. They can't serve a decent piece of meat.

Love the food prostration and menu at Roy's. The service this location could be better.. The runners would leave the food on the edge of our table so we would have to pick it up and reposition it. The waitress seemed to be a bit unfriendly not really offering ideas on the menu. However the for great and in the end you will like this place.

The two stars are for the bartender Rachel who went way out of her way to make this an enjoyable experience and Matt the manager who also worked to make things right. That is where it ends. .. The waitress was deplorable and the food highly mediocre. With so many other wonderful places to eat., this is way down on my list. Prices were ridiculous for the quality and portions.

I have been to the finest Restaurants one could think of all around, none can compare to Roy's. My husband and I celebrate most of our special occasion there. At times we tried to be adventurous and dine at others, and many times we end up disappointed. Services start from the parking lot with choices of valet or non valet parking, you'll be well greeted at the door while kindly get seated. Their drinks are delicious and the best word to describe their food is "phenomenal" the best fillet mignon you'll ever have. Roy's have always managed to capture our special occasions with a curtesy picture taken by the staff and nicely frame as souvenirs. I have dine at the Orlando location and this location many times and came to the conclusion Roy's is the best. Why?= Superb staff, nice interior/ exterior decor, the atmosphere/lighting is perfect for any occasion and on top of that exceptional dining... Many Upscale restaurants can learn a thing or two from Roy's.

As so many others have already stated - service was friendly but nothing spectacular and the food was VERY overpriced for what was served! The evening started with a warm martini in a dirty glass (hard to recover from) and ended with my husband driving to Chic Fil A on the way home to grab a sandwich because, although the bill was $120 for two, the amount of food served was barely enough to call a light meal!! Menu was beautifully written and sounded delicious but when the dishes arrived they were nothing like they sounded. Presentation was nice but flavor was lacking. Best part of the meal was the honey cinnamon ice cream served alongside the severely under ripe peach tart. I should have known what we were in store for when we were seated on torn chairs in a dingy, outdated dining room - would have been better off at Carrabas or Outback for half the price - such a disappointment!!

Had friends in town and wanted a nice dinner. The appetizers were fantastic - the Aloha Roll was outstanding. Orders ranged from Hibachi Salmon to Trio dinner. We were impressed with the amount of food on most plates - expected much smaller portions. The truffle, bacon mac & cheese was very flavorful. Was def very expensive... but we were expecting that. The chocolate lava cake was delicious. Went with 2 children under 10. The kids menu was very impressive and extremely well priced.

Very busy night and we were glad we made a reservation. On June 6th we went and enjoyed the Sushi, Salad Wedge and then the Ahi Tuna and Braised Short Ribs. Everything was cooked and seasoned to perfection. Also had the upside down lava cake. A nice surprise was the photo in frame at the end of the meal to remember the evening. I think next time we will try sitting at the Sushi bar for a different perspective. Rpy's has the best top quality seafood and is very distinctive for a national eatery.

Love love love Roy's! The tuna is the best in town. Love the blackened ahi and the poke! Lobster potstickers are great, too. I love the andoullie crusted snapper and the surf and turf. The valet team is very nice. The servers are great! Gotta love the birthday service. We loved having my husband's birthday there. Great food, great service, great time- every time!!

Roys is an upscale restaurant in a strip mall. The restaurant is set up in a cafeteria type setting with booths on the outside and tables on the inside. The kitchen is open but not really visible. The wait staff is nice but equivalent to the staff at Five Guys. The food presentation is excellent, but the prices are extreme. Four of us went to dinner. We got three entries and I only had an appetizer salad. We had a few drinks. The bill with tip was $300. I travel extensively to DC, Atlanta, Miami, San Juan, etc., and eat in the finest restaurant, where the food is much better, the service is superb and yet the meal costs the same or less. All told, we had a great $180 meal for $300. A strip mall cafeteria type restaurant is not where I want to spend that kind of money.

After a nice day relaxing at Jacksonville beautiful beach we decided to go have a early evening dinner. We were met at the front door i guess by the manager and we were told we was not welcome there with our beach attire on.. This restaurant is located in a strip mall. You would think they would be happy for the business. If you think your that up scale maybe you should move to the towncenter. I will never recommend Roys to anyone. We took our party to Bonefish witch is in the same strip mall. Food was great and friendly service. They was very glad to have our business in beach wear attire.

Had another date with Roy a few weeks back. This time it was a threesome with just me, my husband, and Roy. We made a reservation for a Friday night & headed up a little early. Thank goodness, because right as we were walking in the clouds opened up and unleashed a crazy - yet needed - rainstorm. Upon checking in we were seated quickly and ordered drinks. I had the pepper watermelon margarita & my husband ordered a martini. To start we decided to share an order of the shrimp pad thai. It was plated quite nicely and definitely woke up our taste buds for a night out. For my entree I ordered the shortribs. They were tasty & the potatoes warmed my insides. Of course I revisited my old friend - the warm chocolate souffle. We shared it & it was the perfect way to end our evening. Another good night spent with my friend Roy.

Wife and I went here last night with another couple. Had a really great meal, drinks and super service. The ahi was terrific, while my wife enjoyed the lobster, filet duo. We went here a couple of years ago and was not impressed. This time it was a hit and I'm hopeful it will be agin when we return.

We went to Roy's to celebrate my girlfriend's Birthday so when I set the reservation on Roy's website I made sure to indicate that. When we arrived we were greeted by the staff and we received menus that had an insert with a Happy Birthday message on the 1st page. The waitstaff was very nice and helped us have a good time. I think the bartender could tell that the Birthday Girl wasn't thrilled that everyone knew she was getting older so made believe I would be singing happy Birthday while wearing a coconut top. And the food was excellent. I can't remember what we had since its been awhile but I do know it was good. I had pineapple upside down cake and my girlfriend had the lava cake and they were also very good and a great way to end out meal.

I went to Roy's last night with a friend for a few sushi rolls and a couple martinis. My parents live in Jacksonville, but I'm in Chicago these days and not up to speed on all the happening restaurants in Jax these days. I'd have to assume this one is right up there on the list of some of the best restaurants in the city. I didn't try any of the entrees, though they all sounded (and looked) delicious. As a native Floridian, I miss the taste of fresh seafood, and it doesn't get much fresher than right on the beach. We went with 3 rolls - the Aloha Roll, the Sunrise Roll, and an off-menu Jalapeno Hamachi Grapefruit roll that the chef made special for us. All three were delicious. The tuna, yellowtail, and salmon all tasted fresh and of great quality. The grapefruit added a nice citrus flavor to the jalapeno roll and the ponzu was great on the Aloha roll. The spicy butter sauce on the Sunrise roll was more take it or leave it. It didn't really enhance the flavor, but it wasn't a bad taste either. For cocktails, we both went with the Original Hawaiian Martini (after all, when in Rome...) and it was fruity and tasty, with a good kick. Service was friendly and attentive. Our server offered to give us a "tour of the menu", but we politely declined. The manager stopped by when we were trying to explain our special jalapeno roll order and he made sure it was made to perfection. The atmosphere was nice - not as hip or trendy as I was expecting. It was closer to a fine dining chophouse type of atmosphere. But there was still a bar area with a good number of tables. I know Roy's is a chain that some would just consider the Asian Bonefish, but I had a lovely experience and am now inclined to visit the Roy's in Chicago sometime and dabble with their other dishes (hopefully the fish is just as fresh).

The aloha hour has the best deals! And the bartender Cat, has a personality that can't be beat! Everytime I introduce a friend to Roy's they are impressed by the prices, service and quality of the food & drinks.

The surprise winning entree was the Mahi in the Roy's Trio. Andouille encrusted snapper is better than the butter fish. This restaurant's tagline might throw you off. Aside from the poke here and a tiki artifact there, I didn't have a distinctive Pacific island experience. I'm glad we got a back room table. It was less noisy there. Also I could sit with my back to the wall for safety in case my enemies from Ortega sent assassins to track me down. Get ye a reservation. It's cake via Opentable. And consider using the valet service. Parking is a biachi.

Even though this place is chain, it's a good time for happy hour. The bartenders are sweet and the manager genuinely cares about his staff a well as his customers! I think it's refreshing to see that in a chain restaurant. The food and drinks are always consistent and always yummy. You might even catch a celeb or two in here sometimes.. maybe during TPC week *wink*.

Pretty good happy hour. A bit pricey, meaning, good to go for special occasions or date night. Poor beer selection. Drinks were not great, but that is based on the the bartender's skills. We were there for a birthday party, so not sure when I would ever go back. A lot of better options at the beach, but not a bad place to go every once and a while.

Pretty good! Went here for the happy hour and it was really good! Started with one of their martinis (I didn't like the lychee, but other than that, it was decent). We ordered the sushi rolls and lobster potstickers, seriously yum! So fresh and the sauces were great. We sat up at the bar and the bartender was so funny, helpful and gave us lots of great tips and spoiled us! We will definitely be going back again and again... I imagine for a full dinner it can certainly be pricey. Even the happy hour, we ended up spending quite a bit of money...but it was worth it! Came back again in April 2014 --- not as much fun, not as good. The cosmo was not very good and for $6.00 happy hour price? What is the normal price? I don't know if I consider that a good deal. Had dinner there a few months back for a birthday and it was pretty good, but very pricey.

I started this visit off with a craving for a bit of island comfort. I was craving Hawaiian "Island Style" Poke. I was severely disappointed... The poke was too westernized or too "chef personalized". It was garnished with a fried onion decorations and under ripened avocado. I was also way too over Shoyu'd (soy sauce). It was lacking in Sesame Seed oil and had absolutely no Limu. If this was going to be an "Island Style" Poke, Limu "Hawaiiwan Seaweed" is a necessity. I have patroned every Hawaiian, Vegas, and California Roy's, not one of them tasted non "Island Style" as the one version I tasted in Jacksonville. I sent it back immediately. I then ordered the Pork/Shrimp Gyoza. These were not the traditional Japanese/Korean style gyoza that I was accustomed to. These were steamed/boiled and not fried on a single side which made them very rubbery and chinese "dim sum"-esh. I ate the appetizer and did not complain as I had already felt bad complaining about the Poke. I then went for a third strike and ordered the Blackened Ahi Tuna appetizer. Hit the jack pot! This appetizer was money! My rating is based on my servers professionalism and my llast appetizer. Would I visit again? Yes... but would not order my previous first two appetizers.

I have been here several times on my anniversary. The food here is always very very good. The service is outstanding! You are looked after very well. The price point is high here, but that's why I only come here for special occasions. I try something different everytime I come here. The Surf & Turf was very good and their fish is outstanding. The meals are small enough to order a appetizer, entries, & desert and not be too full. I will return for the next special occasion.

Went for our Valentines Day celebration on Groundhog Day. We avoid the crowds and the sappy atmosphere that way. The service was spot on, the food expertly prepared, and the flavors just danced on my taste buds. This was exactly the kind of meal and experience we were expecting in this price range, pricey, but not overtly expensive. Finishing with the Souffle did not hurt either! Overall, a great experience. UPDATE: Went back for our anniversary on short notice, due to an awful experience somewhere else, and we were blown away with the service food, and entire experience. I had to give them the fifth star!

I have wanted to go to Roy's for about a year. I finally made reservations for 2 last Saturday night. The inside of Roy's reminds me of a Las Vegas restaurant. Flashy but classy. Service 1) Waiter was knowledgeable about menu, but very rushed he was working at least 7 tables 2) 10 min wait to get greeted after sitting, 15-20 mins in between dinner and receiving dessert; by the time the dessert came I was ready to leave. 3) Had to refill my own water multiple times Food 1) Presentation was very nice, temperature was perfect 2) Calamari was seasoned and cooked perfectly, good sauce too. We both ordered the Misoyaki Butterfish, The glaze is amazing and it was delicious. You could tell they put a lot of effort into it. 3) Portions were large on the calamari plenty for the 2 of us and the fish was good size, bigger than most fine dining spots. I hope the next time I go the service is better. For the amount of money we spent and the service that was given, it was not worth it.

I think the best way to describe this Roys location is consistency in my dining experience. Although I have only dined during weekdays, I can see this place being a bit loud when busy. The restaurant is nicely decorated, classy yet not stuffy. As a business traveler, this is a good place to wine and dine customers, as well dining on your own. When by myself, I like to dine at the open kitchen bar, where it gives me an opportunity to engage with the chef and sous-chef. If you never dined at Roys, I recomend the prix fixe menu. They change it seasonally and is consistently well prepared. I had their summer menu, with the beef gyoza appetizer and the combination macademian nut crusted mahi and the braised beef short rib. I added a wedge salad which is a must for those that like blue cheese. They serve it with what tasted like caramelized bacon....excellent. To wrap up the evening I was pleasantly surprised by their courtesy of being able to replace the fix menu dessert with their signature chocolate souffle. The only reason I do not give them 5 stars is due to their use of salt in the gyoza. I found myself reaching out for water due to the excesive salt. But it does earn a solid 4 stars based on overall dining experience. The service has always being excellent. It gets 5 stars.

Wonderful! The only thing better than the food was the service. We were tended to with great attention to detail, but it wasn't overwhelming. The butterfish was excellent - as always. I'll return.

My husband and I went here for my birthday. I love molten lava cakes and he had read that they had a great chocolate souffle, so this is the restaurant that he picked out. We sat down and found a fun little print out in our menus telling me happy birthday with my name on it. It was a fun little touch. They also placed a little ribbon on my table which I assume meant we were celebrating something, because every person who came by asked what we were celebrating and told me happy birthday. They have an extensive list of alcohols, and my husband was happy that they had Hendricks Gin. He says he doesn't find many places that do. Our waitress was very nice and walked us through the menu. She told us some of the popular items, as well as her personal favorites. She also told us about their two desserts that take 20 minutes to cook, one being the chocolate souffle. We ordered the Kinoshita's Keahi Roll for an appetizer to share. It is Spicy tuna, shiso, cucumber, and a spicy scallop topping. It was very delicious and we both enjoyed it. Oh, and when you arrive they give you a bowl of edamame with what I think was crushed red pepper on top. It was something with some heat. I thought they were delicious. My husband liked them, but they had a bit of a hard outer shell that kept getting stuck in his throat, so he gave up on them. Both my husband and I ordered the Wedge salad - Tomatoes, Maple bacon, egg, crispy fried onion, maytag Bleu cheese dressing. I'm not usually a fan of bleu cheese, but I LOVE wedge salads, and this one was very yummy. I enjoyed the sweetness of the maple bacon as well. This is mainly a seafood restaurant. I mean it is Hawaiian fusion. My husband ordered the shellfish sampler - Butter poached half lobster tail, seared scallops, and shrimp with macadamia nut pesto risotto. He said it was very good, but for $34 it wasn't really enough food. Though he is kind of a bottomless pit, so who knows! :P I am not a big fan of seafood. I wish I was...I am always trying it again in hopes that one day my taste buds will change and I will start liking it. I didn't want to test it out at Roys though because it'd be awful to pay $30+ for food and not eat it! I ordered spicy chicken breast. It's not on the online menu, so I can't really describe it well. It was two crispy chicken breasts, a smear of some tasty tomato sauce, and some pork and parmesan risotto. The risotto was delicious. I could have had a whole plate of it. I LOVE risotto. The chicken was good, a little dry, which is interesting, because I am usually the last one in a crowd to call any meat dry. It just wasn't that great, just a plain chicken breast, and the "spicy" tomato sauce wasn't that flavorful either. At least in my case the portion problem was that there was too much. I was starting to get way too full before I even finished the first breast. At this point we were getting a little frustrated. We wanted to order the chocolate souffle, but had forgotten to do so with our meal. Our waitress had not come back to our table personally since our salad course. Each time she came near, she was busy taking care of another table, and before we could get her attention, she'd disappear. Finally a manager came by to check on us and he actually took our dessert order. My husband had also wanted to order another drink, but since we couldn't seem to track our waitress down, it was a bit difficult. The waitress came by afterwards to tell us the souffle order was put in. My husband ordered his scotch, and we sat there talking with an empty table waiting for our dessert. I mean that was why we were there...chocolatey goodness! My husband gets his scotch and there's something in it, lovely. It kind of looks like a tiny fly, or a balled up string, it was weird. We aren't really the type of people that complain at restaurants much, so I could see my husband having an inner struggle. He was not going to drink that alcohol, but felt like an annoying customer complaining. I told him not to worry, he wasn't going to drink it, and we didn't want to pay for a pricy scotch that he wasn't going to drink. It ended up being a piece of the cork I guess. The manager comes back and tells us the souffles are coming out shortly and that they are being taken off our bill for the inconvenience. I thought that was very nice of them. We honestly didn't expect them to do that. We just wanted to make sure we got to eat them! The souffles show up...mine has a birthday candle stuck to the plate (nice!) and then in chocolate they wrote "Happy Birthday Holly!" in Hawaiian. It was very nice. I enjoyed it. The souffles are SUPER delicious! Definitely glad we waited. At the end of the night it was about $115 before tip, so about $60 a person...though we didn't have to pay for dessert. Overall we decided that for the money we'd much rather go to The Melting Pot or Flemings Steakhouse. We only wish a Flemings was in Jacksonville!

3.5 stars for Roy's. I've only been once and it was for the notorious "Aloha Hour" which is daily (!!!) from 4:30-6:30. All the drinks and a handful of appetizers are just $5 each. There were 18 of us for a friend's birthday on Sunday afternoon and we snagged a few hightops at the bar and pushed them together. For a beach restaurant, there's one major design flaw at Roy's: the lack of windows. You feel like you're in a cave. There's a new outdoor patio but didn't get to dine out there on this visit. Ordered the cilantro cucumber margarita to start which was delicious and fresh, then the lobster sushi roll, salt and pepper calamari and the lobster potstickers. The sushi was underwhelming. Nothing memorable there. The calarmari was outstanding and the presentation was fun: a turned-on-its-side Chinese takeout container that had calamari and vegetables spilling out of it. The sauce, spicy and garlicy, was delicious. The lobster postickers were good but you only get 3 of them. (I had a coupon from an event for a free order, so I got the full order of 5.) My drink and two appetizers came to $15 which is reasonable but most people would order another drink and maybe one more appetizer, sending you into the $25 range. The menu itself seemed very pricey and there are tons of other great local spots I'd rather visit at the beach. Even nearby Bonefish (same parent company as Roy's) has windows!

Love the service. I was surprised about the quality of the kids meals. They are just as nice as the adult meal. Flight of veggies and portions were good for my 12 year old. And healthy! Would come back again for our next special celebration. Wine list was superb. Wish they would add some more Washington wines. Cheers!

Amazing Happy Hour. Started coming here in back in August 2012 and this has become a go to happy spot for me since then. The Sushi rolls and their Wagyu beef tacos are to die for! You will not be disappointed with this happy hour - good price and a good selection of drinks. I usually get a Kona beer, but they have all sorts of alcohol concoctions to choose from - even "skinny" made drinks. The only down side I experienced is that it does get a bit busy at times, and if you get there when they first open sometimes there bartenders are still prepping and the service ends up being a bit slow.

Great service. We went on Father's Day and took advantage of the brunch menu. I had their version of Eggs Benedict with filet for the protein. Flavor was good, but the filet was underwhelming for the price. The service was good and the visit was worth the trip.

My husband and I went to Roy's at the beach for our wedding anniversary. We had been to Roy's in different location before and really liked their food, so decided to try the one at Jax Beach. First of all, the service is excellent. We did our reservation online and one of the questions was whether this was a special occasion. Upon arrival, we were pleasantly surprised that the menu was customized with our names for our anniversary. My husband ordered from the prix fixe menu and I ordered a calamari appy and Roy's Classic Roasted Macadamia Nut Crusted Mahi Mahi. Everything was cooked nicely, but I have to admit, the fish dishes were a bit bland for my taste. Overall, it left me wanting more excitment for my main course. The chocolate suffle stole the show as it did with all our other Roy's experience. To be fair, the upside down pineapple cake was nicely done too. Overall, not quite 5 stars experience for me, but when I do crave a great dessert and a nice dining experience, I'd go back to Roy's.

Very nice posh and upscale. The food they have here is like gourmet-style asian and seafood dishes. I had a $25 gift card for this place, and so I split the discount with my mom. I love eating out with my parents! And my mom makes for fellow wacky company, so it's great! We ordered the 3 dish sample here: Roy's Classic Trio. You get small helpings of 3 different dishes on square plates the size of a saucer. Hibachi Grilled Salmon, Blackened Island Ahi & Hawaiian Style Misoyaki Butterfish. Mmmmm.... I can still taste the food in my mouth. One of the dishes featured a seared fish, the ahi dish was spicy, and one of the dishes had a buttery sauce. For dessert, I had chocolate creme brulee, and my mom had a raspberry chocolate dessert with a wafer. Omygoodnesss! Her dish was spectacular! Mine was also good. Our waitress offered to take a picture of my mom and I with our desserts. Apparently they are armed with cameras at this restaurant, and you get a printed picture of you and your friends to take home. Sweet! Overall, a bit pricey, but well worth every cent.

Very good experience. Service was good: very attentive and informative, but not intrusive. We did go on a week night and later in the evening, so it was not crowded. Hawaiian martini is fun and yummy. We shared the Canoe For 2 appetizers...great way to sample a few different ones. All good. I had the Roy's trio and my friend had the shellfish sampler. I liked mine better (why I ordered it!) But his shellfish was enjoyable, too. Shared a chocolate molten souffle for desert...decadent. All in all, whould highly recommend this restaurant.

for me this is a once in a while place to have a nice dinner food = good dining room = good portions = smallish prices = a bit high for what you get if you're looking for typical pacific type place you may be disappointed, but don't be afraid to eat here the food is good.

Went to Roy's for dinner tonight and I think I would have rather gone and had BBQ. There was a Hawaiian Fusion to the menu, but my buddy and I could have made the dishes at home for 1/2 the cost and tastier. His prawn were nothing more than overcooked in a Panang sauce and my Parmesan crusted Tilapia was bland by itself and only crusted on one side. Huhh? On the upside, our server, Ben, was friendly, attentive, and professional at the same time. I would order from him again and probably invite him over to the BBQ. The decor was over thought and under done. They tried a Pacific - Hawaiian theme and came out on the other side with a dark, coral and blue palette(the colors that it looked like by candle light) that still favored Waverly patterns from the 80's on the bench seats. Caution to the older reader, bring your reading glasses! The lighting is too low and the menu can only be guessed at for the first 15 to 20 minutes! For $125 later (including tip) for 2 people, I would have rather thrown that BBQ and had a beer and wine tasting at the house!

I was more impressed than I thought I could be with Roy's. We went here with family who live down in JAX...for my daughter's 6th birthday. Honestly I was a bit skeptical that this was a good place to go, even though my kids are awesome restaurant kids. I was thinking more a pizza or Chinese place for the day... The food across the board was top notch. I didn't try anything that wasn't absolutely yummy. The lobster potstickers and the spare rib apps were wonderful. The drinks were reasonable considering what other restaurants with lesser quality charge. The kids meals were wonderful too...they had a nice snack beforehand for them to nibble on. The little ones loved the spareribs and my bigger one loved the sushi. Both my husband and I loved our fish entrees. I do wish they had had more seafood on the kids menu - at least one fish dish? It was sushi or "the regular" kids stuff. Then again, how many kids go here, relatively speaking?! The servers were wonderful, attentive but not on top of you, and they handled our group of 10 with talent and organization. will for sure go back next time we visit.

Went here for the first time to try it out after wanting to for so long. Heard nothing but good things, especially about the service and the hospitality. When we first arrived, we were greeted immediately by the hostess. We had a reservation already, but asked if we could sit at the chef's counter which overlooked the entire kitchen and its staff as they cooked each meal. This was awesome for me since I love seeing how the kitchen works and seeing the chef's cooking. Our server was very nice and she had no trouble in accepting a coupon for some free potstickers. My date ordered Roy's Blackened Ahi Tuna and I ordered their Spring Prix Fixe Menu, which just recently started. From the Prix Fixe choices, I ordered the Short Rib Bi Bim Bap, Kalbi Grilled Hangar Steak with a Brown Rice Futomaki Roll, Almond and Red Pepper Chimichurri and for desert, of course, the Roy's Melting Hot Chocolate Souffle. The Potstickers were filled with lobster meat and the sauce that they were laid in were really good. The Short Rib also came out at the same time and it was really nice also. Served with a fried egg on top and accompanied by some pickled veggies and a mound of rice, it definitely reminded me of breakfast. After watching the kitchen work at our entrees, they came shortly after we were done with our starters. The Ahi was cooked at the chef's recommendation: seared on one side and served almost completely rare. The grade of tuna was pretty good so there was no trouble there and it came on a bed of rice which was all set atop a soy/mustard sauce which was really good. awesome presentation. My Hangar steak was plain and simple: the steak was prepared medium rare with the chimichurri on top all resting atop a bed of garlic spinach. Also, on the plate was the Brown rice sushi was OK by itself, but when eaten with a piece of hangar steak, was a "complete" bite. After attempting to finish our entrees, we decided we were full and to go ahead and partake on the famous desert. The Molten Lava cake was just as expected: a perfect souffle with a wave of chocolate oozing out of the middle, a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a raspberry coulis running about the plate. A solid ending to the dinner. The entire experience was worth the price we paid and it was a real treat to watch the chefs at work also. It felt like it was just us and we had our very own kitchen of professional chefs working for us. If you're looking for a place to splurge on some pretty good Hawaiian fusion, Roy's is the best in town.

The food was good the service and atmosphere where average. Parking is in a shared lot and we ended up having to park at across the street at one of the closed businesses. When we walked in the first thing we noticed was a) its really loud and b) it really dark in here. This made it hard to see the menu and carry on a conversation. We had a coupon for a free lobster roll appetizer to ordered that along with some wine first off. The lobster roll was really good! Just as at the original Roy's in Hawaii Kai they also serve each table edamame. Ours was sprinkled with red pepper. I love spicy but this had a little too much red pepper for my liking. I love that the dinner menu included both Hawaiian/Asian fusion favorites like miso butterfish, ahi, and kalbi ribs along with local fish from Mayport. We both ordered the andouille crusted Cobia. The fish was cooked perfectly which I've found hard to come by in this area. As for the atmosphere...I was under the impression that Roy's is a fine dining restaurant at least that's what the food and prices suggest. We felt over dressed and out of place as many of the patrons took on a more casual appearance. Perhaps coming straight from the beach?!

Before anyone gets upset, I don't give out many stars. If its even worth going back to it gets two stars in my book. Every time I eat here I am happy with my meal. The food is exactly what I am expecting, and the service is good. Roys is a franchise and each location has both the mainstay items on the menu as well as bit of local flair. I took a cooking class once at Roy's and enjoyed how much effort the chef put into his meals; very impressive. Most of the servers are standout and really make the experience nice, however its not always 100%. Roy's does tend to get loud, and crowed early in the night. Make note that most of the menu is fish with a Hawaiian/Asian flair I happen to love it, if you don't you might be better served going someplace else.

The service here is very nice... when you make reservations they ask you if theres a "special occasion", and will give you personalized menus and such if there is. At the same time, the service is never overbearing. I've eaten here several times. The food is always good to very, very good. The cocktails are good, also, and reasonably priced ($11? I think average for the cocktail menu, and they always give me a buzz after the first one so I would say they have 2 or 3 shots of liquor in each one). I ordered one, which I wasn't happy with, and they quickly returned it and got me a different one. The only real problem I ever had with the food here was when I ordered the shrimp "ceviche", which turned out to be boiled shrimp, cut into pieces with avocado and mixed with jarred sweet chili sauce (the same stuff I have at home in the fridge). I questioned the waiter about this appetizer when it arrived, he agreed and said he thought they should really call this dish "shrimp and avocado salad" or something, because it really is not ceviche at all. They took it back, of course, no problem. The desserts are for sure "A-OK"- chocolate molten cake, pineapple upside down cake, all very good. For the most part, the food here is tasty, fish is fresh (not right off the boat fresh, probably frozen at some point, but obviously from a good supplier and shipped&handled well), but the menu never changes. They seem to cater to a "middle American" palate and they stick to rather safe choices in recipes and ingredients. I would like to see the menu at this place be a bit more adventurous.

Here goes my first review - This really should be 3.5 stars rating. Service was great - plates were cleared quickly and water was always filled to the top. Decor was nice and tropical. Our server, Angela, was super friendly. We thought the portions were kinda small. We loved the Kobe beef sushi (Lakanilau Roll). My husband had the Trio and the minute I saw it, I knew it wasn't going to fill him up. That's when we decided we should get dessert. I had the Shellfish duo (scallops/shrimp with risotto) which was pretty filling. The pineapple upside down cake with ginger ice cream was warm and delicious. Overall, we would have liked bigger portions for the price but taste wise, it was great.

4 stars not 5 but only because I'm really picky about Asian food. I admit I'm a snob about Asian/Fusion, or well, Fusion anything but oh well. For what it is, it is very good. Overpriced in my book because I know how to make a lot of what's on the menu but most everything I've ever had there has been pretty delicious and it is a very nice upscale feeling restaurant . I've dined there a few times with and without reservations and it IS possible to get a table without reservations(on a weekend night) if you're willing to wait a long while but I would definitely recommend reserving a table. It can be done online too which is really convenient. They usually ask if you're celebrating something and I've made reservations in the past for my birthday and anniversary. Both times they had a cute little ribbon around the candle on the table and a little scroll that said Happy Birthday or Happy Anniversary on it which was a nice touch. I've had the spring rolls(which I never see on the menu anymore) with some plum sauce and those are really tasty. They also have delicious Hawaiian style marinaded ribeye with mashed potatoes and I order that often. The only thing bad I can say is I feel like they don't give enough mashed potatoes or side dishes with their entrees but maybe I just eat too much :o) I've also had the risotto and it's not the best I've ever had but it's worth trying. They had a good molten chocolate lava cake with ice cream. A little on the small side but by the time I order desert I'm usually stuffed anyway. Everything is presented well, the service has always been good, and the decor kind of does remind me of my time in Hawaii. It's very pretty and upscale but not stuffy. Would definitely recommend to someone who might be squeamish about trying real Asian or Hawaiian food because it's "Americanized" just enough for a picky eater. A nice place for a special occasion or date night.

Most expensive three stars I've ever eaten. I've been to the Jax Beach Roy's a couple times, and I've never been that impressed. Maybe it's because I've been to two other Roy's that I thought were much better. It's strange..... I'd go to the Roy's near my parent's house in a heart beat.... but I don't think I'll eat again at this Roy's.

my Husband and I had a Date night at Roy's . We both never been there, so we were expecting something a little bit more upscale. from the reviews. it was kinda dated. but... the food was amazing! well... not my lamb chops, it was undercooked and also extremely chewy so that was a huge disappointment! the appetizer i got was the seared tuna absolutely incredible! and my husbands got the braised short ribs and that just melted in my mouth and it was season perfectly. last our dessert... strawberry lime cheesecake. Loved it!!! it was soft fluffy and light. so overall even though my lamb wasn't edible everything else made up for it. the service, appetizer, husbands dish and desert.

The appetizer was great calamari. I had the Cobia entree was just a delicious seafood dish. The pineapple upside down dessert was just the right bit of sweet. You will enjoy dining here and they make birthdays very special.

Me and my wife went here and despite the price this place was awesome. Some of the best steak and sushi we ever had. Staff was very friendly and helpful and even the customers were nice. This is our new favorite restaurant!

To quote an old Saturday Night Live skit, "Well isn't that special". I needed a "special" restaurant to take my daughter to for making straight A's in high school and Roy's really fit the bill. When I booked the reservation on line, there is a spot to note a special reason for the event so I explained what the event was for and the hostess greeted her with "Congratulations on making straight A's" and the restaurant put a nice card in the menu commemorating the event (a good fact to remember). Service was wonderful all night and my daughter engaged our server a number of times, which made the night more pleasant. She chose the Ribeye w/ truffle bacon mac n cheese and was delighted that she did. The portion was so big she took half home to her brother. I was going to choose the Butterfish, but opted instead for Mongchong with bok Choy, broccolini, broccolini cheddar tots. The Mongchong is a light and moist fish from Hawaii, which was flown in the day before. The fish itself was wonderful with a delightful sauce, but they gave me the last tot and the bok Choy and broccolini were underwhelming compared to the tot. Oh and our starter was the Lukolaini roll, which was amazing. We opted to split the Pineapple upside down cake w/ homemade coconut ice cream and it was wonderful. All in all, a very successful outing.

I've had two completely separate occasions I'm basing the review on. First, I came with my boyfriend and really wanted to be impressed. It was a busy Friday night, but service was horrible and our water girl gave better service than our actual server. We also weren't impressed by the menu like we were hoping. Anyway, I had no desire or intentions to come back after our mediocre meal and experience here. However, I was invited to a special event that my job was hosting. This time the service was excellent and the menu options for the event were great! Unfortunately, I wasn't impressed with any of the meal. The salad had hardly any dressing so really just dry and leafy. The sangria was my favorite thing all night! The coconut sake sounded interesting so I had that as well but wasn't really as good as I was hoping. I ordered the chicken with a coconut curry sauce and it was also good, but nothing special or worth getting again. The sides of fried rice and mashed potatoes were my favorite but nothing I can't make at home. The desert was a chocolate tarte with strawberries and whip cream that was very rich but the mix of strawberry made it pretty delicious. Maybe I don't order the right thing. Overall, it's pretty mediocre.

This one gets a 3.5-stars and I'm not really in a "round up" kinda mood today. Everything here was good, but the "wow" factor just wasn't there for me. Perhaps I came on an off night?? Based on other reviews out there, this has to be the case. The food was good but, again, lacked the "wow" that I would have expected for the price. Service was attentive but non-intrusive, which is always a plus in my book! I think this one deserves a re-do, and I will make sure they get one soon.

Went here for dinner after several locals tauted it as 'very good'. Well it is not my kind of food, but will admit I ate it all regardless, and have a new appreciation for their type of food; not sure what to call it, fusion tropical? Atomic neutrons as a side dish? Anyway probably won't come back due to my personal taste, but would say 'Try it you might like it'....anyway bar was very efficient, and service was very good. Parking is part of a strip mall, but if you come after 6pm...you will probably not get a spot nearby. This is not my normal rating, but maybe because I expected more.

Roy's was amazing. So it was date night, me and the bf went to Roy's. I like to do dinner dates during the week when it's less busy. I had the braised beef short ribs which were so tender and mouth watering. The service was great. I also had the pineapples soaked in vodka which were to-die-for and I left the restaurant lit.

Roy's offers a premium meal at a premium price. The menu has never failed to amaze me. I have been eating at Roy's restaurants across the United States for years and I have not been disappointed yet. In the Jacksonville area Roy's is a must for an amazing meal.

On a child free night looking for a menu that didn't have Mac-N-Cheese on it, we selected Roy's. We had been there before when it first opened and on that trip sat at the bar overlooking the kitchen. That would have been a 5star trip. This time we sat at the "bar" bar and were able to have a good evening. Not Great, but Good. The Bartenders were extremely friendly and helpful to explain the food and drink menu's. Stay away from the drunken pineapple, by the way. We ordered the sample platter of apps. The price point was nearly 30.00 and the food was amazing on that dish. The problem was that the portion amounts on that dish at that price point for the most expensive sample plate in Jacksonville was not nearly enough. I will highly recommend the Short Ribs to anyone. They were over the top, fall off the bone and delicious. We ordered the Andouille Crusted Onaga and it came with great tasting mashed and a side of steamed spinach. We split that and an order of Lakanflau Sushi Roll. The sushi roll was the highlight the dinner course. Highly recommended. We came into the place after 9pm on a Saturday night and we sat at the bar, which we would not do again at this restaurant. The second reason that I would not give it a 5 stars is that the bar starts shutting down and cleaning dishes and washing and cleaning, regardless of being two feet away and its right under your nose as your trying to eat and have a conversation. I would also suggest to the ownership group of these locations that they upgrade their menu's with the newly backlight menu's. Come on guys, its 2010. The dark lighting makes it extremely hard to read the menu's unless your directly under a light. Other than that.....all good.

I made reservation for my sister's bachelorette party here and it was extraordinary. The menu had a fusion twist and the waiter was generous and made sure our drinks/water was always filled. I definately suggest to made reservations since this place does get really busy.

Recently went back to Roy's Restaurant to try their new Japanese-inspired prix fixe menu. We've been to Roy's several times in the past. It's one of the 'special occasions" restaurant since it's a little far for us. But my wife gets their email promotions and when she saw the sukiyaki, basically that was it. We just have to go. So on a random Thursday night, we made a reservation for three (a friend decided to join us as well). Between the three of us, we were able to try every single dish on the new prix fixe menu. First of all, the service was great, but we did notice a few minor awkward moments with the server. I think it's because this menu is still so new that he is not sure what utensils are needed... like for the sukiyaki, no spoon or chopsticks were offered... which were much needed. Anyways, here is the breakdown of the dishes we ordered: Appetizer: Shiro miso soup - We all agreed this was the most 'blah' dish of the menu. The soup was lukewarm (which we probably should've returned it and ask for a hot one). My friend ordered this, tried a few bites/sips, and pushed it aside. To the restaurant server's credit, someone did come over, asking if she didn't like the soup and offered to bring her something different. But she wanted for me and my wife to try it and declined the offer. My wife and I each had a taste of it and agreed that we thought the flavor was a'ight. Nothing wow'ing or special. Appetizer: Hamachi tataki - One of our favorite dishes of the night. The hamachi was fresh and delicious. Seared on the edge just right. Paired with the acidity of grapefruit, it was just plain delicious. Entree: Sukiyaki - This is the dish we mainly went for. The bowl was filled with fresh and beautiful ingredients. I personally loved this dish. My wife's two cents were (1) the bowl was way too small so you can't properly 'mix' the ingredients with the broth and the noodle on the bottom and (2) the broth was slightly on the sweet side for her personal preference. But she still agreed it was a very delicious dish. The pork belly and beef short ribs were cooked nicely and flavorful. The soy poached egg was perfect. They did not skimp on the amount and quality of ingredients on this dish. Entree: Karaage fried chicken paillard - So it was very difficult to order this dish because all three of us wanted the sukiyaki. But my wife "took one for the team" and chose this dish as her main. At the end, we were all glad she did because the chicken was very nicely cooked, moist and delicious. The wasabi mashed potato was very good too. Dessert: Yuzu curd - Again, a very hard dish to chose because it means you have to say 'no' to Roy's chocolate soufflé. But again, my wife "took another one for the team" and picked it. It was light and delicious. No, it's no chocolate soufflé, but if you are not a fan of chocolate or want something light and different, it's a great dessert. Dessert: Chocolate souffle - Yeah, Roy's signature dessert that needs no intro. As delicious as expected. It was a nice well-rounded and delicious meal.

Yummiest dinner in a long time! We had an awesome trip across Japan dinner. Our server Lindsey was awesome. The place was quite nice and bordered on the hoity toidy, but they did let me in with my scrubs coming in from work. The menu was from start to finish flavorful fresh and delicious. The chocolate soufflé was completely plate licking good in the words of my honey! Will have to come back her soon.
